New Patient Registration
The doctors and staff at the Winton Health Centre in Bournemouth are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare. We run many clinics for management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes, and we offer a variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery and childhood vaccinations.
We offer you the flexibility of consulting with either your registered usual Doctor, or with one of the other practice doctors, so that if you wish to be seen by a male of female doctor, we can usually arrange this.
Our reception desk allows wheelchair-using patients to communicate directly with reception staff, and our large car park has spaces for disabled patients, with easy flat access into the building. There are also accessible toilet facilities.
Our website offers lots of useful information about the Practice and its staff, as well as a variety of ‘Self-Care’ guidance for minor ailments. You will also be able to register to our ‘Online Service’ where you can book appointments and order medication online.

We can only register patients living within our Practice Boundary. Please see the below map to see if you are within our catchment area.
Patients living within the PURPLE boundary will be accepted.
Patients living within the RED boundary may be accepted but this is at the surgery's discretion.
We are committed to providing you with the best level of service. Here are some frequently asked questions about registering to become a patient at our Practice that we hope will assist you.
- How do I register as a new patient? In order to become a patient at the Winton Health Centre, you must live within our catchment area (please see our practice boundary). You can either come into the surgery and we will give you our ‘welcome pack’, or you can find printable registration forms online. We will need to see photo ID and proof of address (residency documents where applicable) before we can take you on as a patient.
- What’s in the ‘Welcome Pack’? We’ll give you copies of our ‘New Patient Questionnaire’, a registration form, our Practice Booklet that tells you all about the services we offer, and various patient information leaflets to help you get the most out of NHS services.
- How long will it take to register me? We require 7 working days to fully register you as a new patient. However, it can take up to 6 weeks before we receive your full medical records from your previous surgery.
- I have a medical emergency, what shall I do? Either attend the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (BH7 7DW) or phone 999 for an ambulance.
- I’m ill, not yet registered and not sure how urgently I need to see a doctor, what shall I do? Phone NHS 111 – they have trained medical staff that can give you advice. If NHS 111 tells you that you need to see a GP urgently (especially if you are calling for a child under 13 years), please call us and we will fast track your registration so you can speak to the Duty Doctor that same day. Alternatively, you can visit our website’s ‘Self-Care’ page where you will find various fact sheets and leaflets to help you.
- I want to register and I’ve run out of medication, what shall I do? The best way to obtain your repeat medication is to ask your previous surgery to FAX or electronically send a prescription to a local pharmacy. If this is not possible, most pharmacies will issue you with emergency medication.
- What if I need to see a Clinician in the meantime? Once you have given us the completed paper work, you can access our services after 48 working hours.
- If you are suffering from any of the following, if may be a medical emergency and you should call 999 immediately: -
- Severe chest pain, tightness in chest, sweating of clammy, pain radiating down left arm
- Unconscious / Collapsed
- Head Injury
- Bleeding Profusely
- Weak and floppy with rash (especially if a child)
- Gasping for breath
